Mood Board Crafting

A fun antenatal prep event, centred around crafting

Why an antenatal crafting event?

Couple Reviewing Album

Most antenatal classes tend to follow a similar sort of instructional layout covering the basics around birth, what to expect of a newborn baby, and the practical elements of how to care for a baby, like how to change a nappy, how to put them down to sleep, etc.

The problem with most of these classes is that there's loads of information being thrown at you, and most of it can feel irrelevant to your own situation. It can often be boring and for this reason we retain very little of the content.

What if I told you we could cover a lot of that same content with informal discussion over magazine clippings, glue sticks and craft materials, alongside hot drinks and biscuits? Because we can!

I'll bring the discussion prompts to make sure we get down to the nitty gritty of what to expect, what your parenting ethos might look like with your baby, and what sort of things you may want to buy in for those early days with your baby. All you have to bring is a desire to share and do some crafting! ☺️

What the morning has in store

I'll be bringing heaps of magazines you can cut from, large and small paper sizes, and various other pretty cardstock and materials, including pretty pens. If you have a baby planning book or personal scrapbook you'd like to bring to use instead, please do.

There will be a quick, "Hi, my name is..." from everyone, and then we'll quickly get to sharing. No cringy role plays or forced paired up activities, but I'll encourage everyone to share their thoughts around topics.

You do not have to have a particular parenting ethos to attend, however you plan to birth and raise your baby is welcome to be shared in this space. I will be bringing the "what you need to know" to help you plan and prepare as much as possible.

You can take anything you make home with you. I'll also provide some additional information you can take away to keep for reference once baby arrives.

Content will cover:

Recovering from Birth

Whether your birth involves surgery or not, the need for recovery often takes most of us by surprise. What sort of things will you need to consider to optimise healing?

Visitors & Socialising

Some people love the comfort of their home, some can't wait to get out. We'll explore how we can manage opportunities for social engagements while also prioritising bonding with our new baby.

Baby Feeding

Whether you're breastfeeding or formula feeding, we'll talk through equipment, how often a baby feeds, their volume intake, and common issues people struggle with.

Everyone Getting Sleep

We all need sleep, but how do we get sleep with a baby who seems to not want to be put down to sleep? Let's look at where your baby will sleep, what safe sleep looks like, and how to get as much of it as possible!

Managing Medical Appts

Let's talk about how you may consider navigating things if you end up with a baby who needs additional medical support, or some additional monitoring and appointments?

Handling the Crying

Babies cry, some more than others. We're often told we'll know what our baby's cry will mean, but most of us have no idea! So, it may be worth talking about what your baby's cries might mean and tricks to settle them.
